Orangeville

The town of Orangeville is the seat of Dufferin County.  It has a population of about 28,000.
Orangeville was established on Jan. 1, 1874 and named after Orange Lawrence, a businessman who owned several mills in the area. (The house pictured on the right in the header was his dwelling.)   Lawrence also founded the first school in Orangeville and he became the village's first postmaster in 1847.

More than 40 beautiful wood sculptures can be found along the streets of Orangeville.  These carvings are made from the stumps of trees that were considered to be at the end of their life.

Orangeville hosts an agricultural fair as well as an annual fall fair and founders fair.  Other events include the maple syrup festival and the increasingly popular Orangeville Blues & Jazz Festival which features musicians playing in restaurants, bars, and streets around the town.

Orangeville has many historic buildings, several of which have been beautifully restored.  One example is the Orangeville Town Hall & Opera House
